NCAA Tournament

Is it possible to watch too much basketball? This is the question we have to ask ourselves as March Madness has begun. Usually I only follow the women's tournament because I am such an avid UConn women's basketball fan. But this year, at the prompting of my son-in-law, I discovered the Tournament Challenge at espn.com. After filling out all those brackets, I find I am now glued to the tv screen and the live updates online to keep track of the men's game scores.

My big upset in predictions was Manhattan - I totally didn't expect them to win! Other upset - Arizona losing to Seton Hall. I watched most of that game and felt that Arizona really could have won the game but let it get away from them.

I enjoy watching the women play more than the men, because it seems to me that the women play a purer form of the game. It seems more of a team effort. The UConn women have not had the easy year many expected - 4 losses ending with the loss of the Big East Tournament. They have learned the hard way that they must rely on each other - that no one "star" player can pull out every game...even if she is Diana Taurasi. Uconn will play as a second seed this year, first game on Sunday. My hopes for the team on Sunday: Diana will have a good game, Willnett Crockett will make a big impact, and UConn will win and get some confidence back.

I have to say that the NCAA Tournament couldn't come at a better time - after a late snow storm the other day, I am fed up with New England weather and am perfectly content to sit back and watch basketball on tv while I wait for spring to appear.

GO UCONN!!!!!
